Kampala, Uganda: The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Ms Beti Olive Namisango Kamya-Turomwe, has opened up on the internal battles that led to her dismissal from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), saying she was fired over gender discrimination and ideological disagreements.
Kamya, now serving as IGG, said her fallout with FDC leadership began after the death of Dr. Kigundu, a key party figure whose absence triggered internal instability.
“I was fired from FDC. I disagreed with how things were being done, especially after Dr. Kigundu died,” Kamya said in a televised interview.
The former Kampala Woman MP disclosed that she expressed interest in contesting for the position of FDC Chairperson, but was blocked by senior figures in the party.
“I wanted to contest for the position of Chairperson, but most of the leadership didn’t want me to run. A lot of it had to do with my gender,” Kamya noted.
She accused the party leadership at the time of being rigid and intolerant to divergent views, especially from women with ambition.
Kamya, who later formed the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) before joining the ruling NRM, said her experience in FDC taught her valuable political lessons and exposed the unresolved internal conflicts that continue to plague the party.
“When I left, I knew that there were internal conflicts that will never be resolved,” she said.
Her revelation comes at a time when FDC itself is undergoing fresh divisions, with rival factions and infighting threatening the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2026 elections.
