London, England: Crystal Palace lifted their first-ever FA Community Shield trophy after battling to a 2–2 draw with Premier League champions Liverpool at Wembley, then clinching victory 3–2 in the ensuing penalty shootout on Sunday evening.
New signing Hugo Ekitiké struck early for Liverpool in the 4th minute, only for Jean-Philippe Mateta to equalise from the spot soon after.
Another debutant for Slot’s side, Jeremie Frimpong, restored the lead, but Ismaïla Sarr’s neat finish in the 77th minute forced penalties.
In the shootout, Crystal Palace’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson emerged as the hero, saving efforts from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, while Mohamed Salah missed for Liverpool. Eagles’ substitute Justin Devenny sealed Palace’s victory with the final spot-kick.
This win follows Palace’s memorable FA Cup triumph in May and marks their second major trophy in three months, a remarkable surge under manager Oliver Glasner.
