Gulu City, Uganda: Gulu Hawks Basketball Club put up a commanding display over the weekend, defeating both Makindye Shooters and Old Tymers to remain firmly in third place on the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) Division II standings.
The action unfolded in Week 13 of the 2025 season, the second week of the second round, at the Kenneth Kaunda Liberation Grounds in Gulu City.
On Saturday, the Hawks overcame Makindye Shooters 71–64 in a tightly contested game. Less than 24 hours later, they returned to the court to dismantle Old Tymers 77–62, cementing their home-court dominance.
The back-to-back wins take Gulu Hawks to 24 points from 14 games, just one point behind joint leaders Kampala University B.C and Makindye Shooters, both tied on 25 points, though Makindye have played one game less than Kampala University.
Hawks head coach Lawrence Kilama hailed his side’s resilience: “We had to fight hard on our home ground to pick these wins. Our focus now is to keep winning so that by playoff time we are in the best position to advance and seek promotion to the next league,” he said.
Makindye Shooters captain Freezie Bahati attributed their Saturday loss to incomplete squad travel due to logistical issues, but remained optimistic: “We’ll bounce back and target wins in our upcoming games to keep ourselves in contention for the top spot,” Bahati told DailyExpress.
The victories continue a strong run for the Hawks, who last weekend swept their Week 12 fixtures — edging Metha Phenoms 79–77 and Governors B.C 83–83 (OT win) at Nakasero Primary School in Kampala.
