Nairobi, Kenya: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has slapped fines on Kenya, Zambia, and Morocco for breaching rules at the ongoing TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024, warning that repeat offenders could face tougher sanctions.

The decisions, announced in a Wednesday, August 13 statement followed a sitting of the CAF Disciplinary Board to deliberate on matters arising from the tournament.

Kenya Fined, Warned Over Safety Failures

In the alarming decisions taken, CAF hit the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) with a hefty USD 50,000 fine for multiple safety and security breaches during their CHAN match against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The CAF Disciplinary Board further warned Kenya that continued failure to meet CAF’s safety requirements could see their national team’s home matches relocated to alternative venues.

Additionally, CAF advised Kenya to increase security measures, including deploying more personnel inside stadium perimeters and enforcing road closures on match days.

Zambia Penalised for Media Violation

CAF also fined the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) USD 5,000 for failing to present its head coach at the mandatory Match Day-1 press conference ahead of their CHAN clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Board said Zambia’s act breached its Media Regulations, noting that the pre-match briefing is a critical engagement with the press and stakeholders.

Morocco Penalised for Player Misconduct

The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) was also fined USD 5,000 for inappropriate conduct by its players during the game against Kenya. However, USD 2,500 of the fine was suspended on condition that no similar offences occur during the remainder of CHAN 2024.

According to CAF, all fines must be settled within 60 days of notification.
