Mbale, Uganda: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Tribunal has dismissed a petition by incumbent Elgon County MP Mudimi Nyasio Wamakuyu challenging the election of Moses Massa as the party’s flag bearer in the July 17, 2025, primaries.
The Tribunal ruled that the petition lacked merit, affirming Massa’s win with 13,414 votes against Mudimi’s 12,776, while Kiboma came third. The decision brings an end to weeks of political uncertainty and intra-party tension in the constituency.
Speaking at Mbale Courts View Hotel after the verdict, Massa thanked the Tribunal for “finding the truth” and declaring him the rightful candidate. He commended his legal team and lauded the people of Elgon County for their patience during the dispute.
Massa urged his rivals to unite behind him for the good of the constituency. “If they have the NRM heart, they can come and we build Elgon together by continuing from where Mudimi ended. East or west, home is best,” he said.
Outlining his priorities, Massa pledged to tackle poor road conditions, rebuild collapsed bridges, improve education and healthcare systems, and address the plight of farmers living near Mt. Elgon National Park. “I want to be the voice for the voiceless,” he added.
