Umukuka launches Bugisu Education Committee to boost scholarships, school development

Mbale City, Uganda: His Highness the Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba people, Jude Mike Mudoma, has inaugurated a dedicated Education Committee to oversee educational initiatives in Masaabaland under the leadership of Bukuka.

The committee, announced during a meeting chaired by the Umukuka III yesterday, is tasked with organizing the upcoming Umukuka III Educational Conference, scheduled for late September, and mobilizing scholarships for bright but needy students across Masaabaland and beyond.

“This committee will handle both ad hoc and permanent education-related tasks, working closely with the Minister of Education in Bukuka to advance the cause of learning,” said Steven Masiga, spokesperson for Bukuka and secretary of the committee.

The interim chairperson of the committee is Mr. Napokoli Sam Sakwa, a veteran teacher who has taught languages in countries including South Africa and Swaziland. Other members include; Hon Samuel Kuloba: Minister for Education in Bukuka, Hon Reverend Titus Kutosi: Lecturer at Uganda Christian University (Mbale Centre) and member of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda.

Others are Mr. Wangwanyi, a retired primary headteacher from Buwalasi, and Steven Masiga, the Committee secretary, Makerere University community education officer, law graduate, and PhD student.

    The committee is expected to comprise 11 members in total, with additional members to be co-opted in due course.

    The launch underscores the cultural institution’s commitment to promoting education, nurturing talent, and ensuring that promising students from all walks of life have access to quality learning opportunities.
