Group C Fixtures (Friday August 18, 2025)
Guinea 1-1 Algeria
Niger 0-0 South Africa

Kampala, Uganda: Algeria’s Soufiane Bayazid struck late to secure a crucial 1-1 draw with Guinea in the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group C clash at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium on Friday, before Niger held South Africa to a 0-0 stalemate to setup a tense finale of the group ahead of Monday’s fixtures.

Ismaël Camara’s fine strike midway through the second half had put Guinea on course for a vital victory in their fight to stay in the tournament, but Bayazid levelled with two minutes to the whistle to preserve Algeria’s unbeaten record at the tournament.

The result meant both Guinea and Niger are out of the tournament, as Guinea played their final group C fixture, which they needed to win to stay in contention.

In the second fixture, Niger (already out of the tournament) shared spoils with South Africa in a game of few clear chances, keeping South Africa with a must-win fixture against Uganda if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

CHAN 2024 Group C standings after today’s fixtures:

  1. Uganda – 6 points
  2. Algeria – 5 points
  3. South Africa – 5 points
  4. Guinea – 4 points
  5. Niger – 1 point

Final Group C fixtures will be played simultaneously on Monday at 20:00hrs, with South Africa facing Uganda at Namboole – a match the Cranes must win to seal top spot – while Algeria take on Niger at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, needing just a point to confirm their quarterfinal berth.
