CHAN 2024: Kakande in for suspended Sserunjogi as Cranes take on South Africa in Group C decider

The Uganda Cranes XI that started against Niger in the 2-0 victory for Coach Byekwaso's side.

Namboole, Uganda: Uganda Cranes head coach Morley Byekwaso has unveiled his starting lineup for tonight’s crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group C clash against South Africa with Patrick Jonah Kakande the only change from the starting XI that beat Niger and Guinea over the last two fixtures at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa retains his place between the posts, with captain Rogers Torach marshalling the backline alongside Gavin Kizito, Hilary Mukundane and Herbert Achai.

In midfield, Byekwaso has entrusted the versatile Kakande to step in for suspended Joel Sserunjogi to feature along with Allan Okello on playmaking duties, while Abdu Karim Watambala and Enock Ssebagala complete the midfield set.

At the Frontline of Uganda’s attack is Reagan Mpande and Jude Ssemugabi as the cranes seek to finish the group stages strongly after a scrapy start.

Uganda currently top Group C with six points after victories over Guinea (3-0) and Niger (2-0), but face a stern test from the Bafana Bafana side that needs maximum points to secure qualification.

Over 34,000 fans are expected under the floodlights at Namboole as the Cranes look to seal their place in the quarterfinals. Kickoff is underway in a few.
