Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has directed all examination centres and district education offices to display candidates’ registers until October 10, 2025, warning parents and schools to confirm registration status or risk last-minute crises.
UNEB Executive Director Dan N. Odongo said the display is a legal requirement under the UNEB Act, Cap 259 S.4(2), and must be done “in a conspicuous place at the school/Examination Centre where the candidates are registered, and at the district headquarters respectively.”
Parents have been specifically cautioned to verify learners’ registration, especially those enrolled in schools without UNEB centre status. “This is important to avoid unfortunate scenarios where students are discovered unregistered at the start of the examination period,” Odongo stressed in a Monday, August 18 press statement.
Where a learner has proof of payment but is missing on the register, Dr Odongo advised parents to first engage the school and escalate to the board if no help is given. To ease the process, UNEB has also rolled out an SMS verification service. Candidates and parents can confirm registration by typing Reg Full Index No. and sending it to 6600.
Odongo further urged heads of centres, candidates, and parents to critically analyse the registers to confirm the accuracy of the Index/Personal Number, Names and spellings, Date of birth (Day, Month, Year), Gender, Attached photograph, and Subjects and papers registered (UCE/UACE candidates)
He emphasized that corrections must be submitted before the deadline, noting: “Where there is a discrepancy in the biodata or photograph of a candidate, the centre should formally communicate to UNEB for correction within the stipulated period.”
Adjustments for PLE candidates will require amendment forms on the UNEB portal, while UCE and UACE corrections must be submitted through formal letters with copies of national IDs or birth certificates attached.
Odongo commended schools, parents, and learners for completing registration successfully, urging vigilance in this verification stage. “Let us now use the registers to ensure that the data submitted is accurate,” he concluded.
