Kampala, Uganda: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has restricted ticket purchases to a maximum of three per person as Uganda Cranes prepare to face reigning champions Senegal in the CHAN 2024 quarterfinal at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, this Saturday, August 23, 2025.
In a press statement issued on August 20, 2025, CAF, through its Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in Uganda, confirmed that ticket sales opened online on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and warned against black market purchases.
“CAF has informed the LOC that Match Day ticket sales for Saturday’s Quarter Final match between Uganda and Senegal start on Wednesday, 20th August 2025 at 9 a.m. We encourage fans who would like to purchase match-day tickets for Saturday to do so as early as possible to avoid the disappointment that comes with attempts at late purchase of match-day tickets,” reads in part the statement signed by Dr Dennis Mugimba, the Chairperson and Signage Sub-Committee.
“To limit the likelihood of some people buying genuine online tickets and hoarding them to resell on the black market at exorbitant prices, CAF has reduced the number of tickets any one person can buy at ago to a maximum of three tickets,” he added.
Dr Mugimba emphasized that all tickets remain strictly online, cautioning fans against falling prey to scammers selling fake or duplicated paper tickets. “All CHAN-2024 tickets are only available online. CAF has not availed any physical tickets since Match Day One. If you are buying a physical ticket, there is a very good chance you have been duped.”
He further urged fans not to purchase electronic tickets from third parties, asserting that there are already many duplicates in circulation, and CAF systems are smart enough to only let in one version of such tickets. “If your ticket fails the duplication test, you will be denied access,” he stressed.
On matters concerning security, Dr Mugimba commended the Uganda Police and sister agencies for ensuring order and safety throughout the tournament, but reminded fans that even when they hold valid tickets, intoxicated or aggressive supporters will be denied access to the stadium and turned away at the gates.
“The LOC would like to inform the public that CAF has instructed that fans who are deemed to be under the influence of any intoxicating substance such as alcohol as well as those displaying aggressive behavior towards either fellow fans, Ticket Stewards, or Security Services should not be allowed into Namboole stadium even though they hold a genuine ticket or Fan Parks,” he stated.
Uganda heads into the clash against the backdrop of a dramatic 3-3 comeback against South Africa, a result that confirmed their first-ever qualification to the CHAN quarterfinals.
LOC has already projected an early sell-out of Saturday’s match, as it was against the Bafana-Bafana, with tens of thousands expected at Namboole to witness the historic fixture. “Our prayer is that Monday’s moment becomes an inspiration for the Uganda Cranes to finish the next business of a quarterfinal on Saturday… against Senegal’s national team – the Lions of Teranga,” Dr Mugimba noted.
Uganda will host only one quarterfinal fixture, while other matches will take place in Nairobi, Zanzibar, and Dar es Salaam.
