Kazo, Uganda: The former Minister of State for Economic Planning, Molly Kamukama, has been thrown back into the political spotlight after leaked audios captured her comparing herself to the Fountain of Honour, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in a shocking self-exaltation that has rattled senior NRM cadres in Kazo District.
In the audios, which this website exclusively got a copy of from an insider source, Kamukama, a former Presidential Press Secretary, is heard declaring that politics is for “selfish interests,” a statement that her critics say reflects a manipulative streak and a mindset at odds with the selfless service ethos expected of an NRM leader.
“She has a character of manipulation and selfishness. In the audios, she claims the president himself only follows his own interests, yet he is the one who identified her, employed her, and later dismissed her for misconduct,” a senior party cadre in Kazo who preferred to stay anonymous to this report told DailyExpress on condition of anonymity.
The leaks emerged after Kamukama allegedly convened a meeting where she announced support for a national female youth MP candidate from Lyantonde, against two potential candidates who hail from her own district, Kazo.
Her endorsement of the unnamed candidate was met with overwhelming rejection, as 90 percent of attendees opposed her choice, which prompted some to record her voicing during the meeting and later release them anonymously and simultaneously.
Kamukama; rejected by her very own
Community voices strongly accuse Kamukama of subduing the will of the youth to serve her personal ambitions. “If her interest was truly in serving Kazo, she would build local leadership instead of importing candidates from outside,” said a youth leader who attended the meeting.
The latest scandal adds to her chequered political record. Kamukama was unceremoniously dropped from the State House Aide job, after less than three years, following allegations of undermining projects she could not control. She later served just 27 days in Cabinet before being dismissed.
Party insiders also revealed that Kamukama’s long-standing fights with Minister Alice Kaboyo, a close ally of President Museveni, have further weakened her standing in both the NRM and her home district.
With the new leaks, NRM cadres in Kazo have vowed to seek leaders of integrity who will unify the district, describing Kamukama as “a divider who dreams for herself, not the community.”
In the next edition of this story (Part 3), stay on the lookout for more leaked audios.
