Journalist Wabusimba graduates from Cavendish, hailed for global leadership in diplomacy

Kampala, Uganda: Ugandan journalist, public health advocate, and strategic communication specialist Wabusimba Amiri has earned international acclaim after graduating at Cavendish University Uganda’s 14th graduation ceremony, held at the Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo.

Amiri obtained a Second-Class Upper Degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies, adding to an impressive academic portfolio that includes a Public Management and Leadership certificate from the Franklin Institute of Leadership (USA).

Other certifications include: Trainer of Trainers certification in Gender-Responsive Reporting and Communication from Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC), and earlier qualifications in Journalism and Mass Communication from NIBS, alongside numerous professional certificates.

Reflecting on his milestone, Amiri revealed how financial setbacks nearly derailed his journey:
“As the lastborn of my family, there were moments I thought I would not complete my degree, especially after the suspension of the USAID grant during my last semester. Yet, by the grace of Allah and with the support of many who believed in me, I made it. This degree is not only mine but belongs to every hand that supported me along the way and to all those whose livelihoods were disrupted by changes in foreign aid programs.”

Beyond academics, Amiri has built a career spanning over 13 years in journalism, public health, and communication strategy. He is the Founder and CEO of Shanix Marketing and Media Agency Ltd, which champions agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment.

Wabusimba also serves as Assistant CEO of Buweekula Football Club, a Masaza Cup powerhouse, where he supports youth mentorship and sports leadership.

His leadership footprint extends globally. Earlier this year, Wabusimba represented Cavendish University and Uganda at the prestigious Nasser International Leadership Fellowship in Cairo, Egypt, which convened participants from more than 80 countries to engage on diplomacy, governance, and youth leadership.

He also launched his book Where Do Men Spend Their Time? in Cairo, a groundbreaking work that explores the cultural and economic roles of men in society, cementing his place as a thought leader and international author.

Wabusimba’s blend of academic excellence, professional impact, and global visibility embodies Cavendish University’s 2025 graduation theme: employability, entrepreneurship, and global readiness. His journey reflects resilience and vision, aligning with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and Africa’s wider human capital development agenda.
