Entebbe, Uganda: Hakim Kyeswa, an aspirant for the ruling NRM party’s Central Region Vice Chairmanship, has been successfully vetted and cleared by the party’s Central Executive Committee (NEC), giving him the green light to hit the campaign trail ahead of the delegates conference.

Kyeswa, the Mukono District NRM Publicity Secretary, appeared before the CEC Vetting Committee on Thursday, August 21, at State House Entebbe, and his successful vetting paves the way for him to officially contest in the upcoming NRM Conference.

Speaking exclusively to DailyExpress after the vetting, Kyeswa described the milestone as “momentous and historic,” noting it signaled the beginning of a long push to reclaim NRM support in Buganda and Uganda at large.

“This is not just about me; it is about the voice of the youth and the need for fresh ideas in the party,” Kyeswa said. “Our campaign slogan, Nothing for Us without Us, speaks to the urgency of empowering young people, who form over 70% of Uganda’s population, to take up real leadership roles in shaping NRM’s future.”

The NRM Delegates Conference, scheduled for August 28–29, 2025, will elect leaders for the 2025–2030 term across NEC, CEC, and other party organs.

The Central Region Vice Chairmanship is one of the hotly contested slots, with analysts predicting Buganda’s vote will be crucial in the wider party politics ahead of 2026.

Kyeswa faces rivals in the race who include Microfinance Minister Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo, Kayunda NRM Chairperson Moses Karangwa, and incumbent Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, among others.
