Speaker Among’s Bukedea school stun Kenya’s Musingu to lift FEASSA title

Bukedea Comprehensive School players celebrate lifting the crown after edging Kenya’s Musingu Scorpions 2-1 to win the East African Secondary Schools football championship at Mamboleo Stadium.

Mamboleo, Kenya: Bukedea Comprehensive School were crowned the new East African Secondary Schools football champions after edging Kenya’s Musingu Scorpions 2-1 in a thrilling Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) final played at Mamboleo Stadium.

Musingu, buoyed by home support, struck first through Shaban Quimba, but Bukedea responded in style with a brace from Form One sensation Hamisi Businge, sealing Uganda’s dominance in the regional championship.

Bukedea Head coach Ronald Ssali said his side’s tactical discipline was key to the historic win. “I was confident we would win because of the discipline and dynamic formation we invested in the match. Musingu is a credible side with the advantage of home fans, but we countered by parking the midfield and neutralizing their threat,” Ssali explained.

Road to the Crown

Bukedea had a remarkable tournament run, topping their group with 14 points before seeing off Benjamin Mpaka High School 2-0 in their last group match. In the semi-finals, they brushed aside Kenya’s Butere SS to book a slot in the finals against Musingu.

Professor Jonas Gumisiriza, the Resident Managing Director of Bukedea Comprehensive School, hailed the players for making Uganda proud.

“The team has a number of talented players, and they have given Bukedea not just a name but also crowned Uganda as champions. We shall organise a celebration for them,” Gumisiriza announced.

Speaker of Parliament and Executive Director of the school, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among also joined in the celebrations, posting her congratulations despite being busy on the campaign trail for the NRM CEC vice chairperson (female) slot.

“Congratulations to Bukedea Comprehensive School for emerging as the East African Champions after defeating Kenya’s Musingu Scorpions in the FEASSA Championship finals,” she wrote on her official X account. “Kudos to the boys on this remarkable achievement!”

Meanwhile, Esther Patience Adeke, a Senior Five PCM student, expressed excitement, saying students were eager to welcome their heroes back to Bukedea. “We are missing the vibe of receiving our team, but the pride they’ve brought home is unmatched,” she said.
