Jinja, Uganda: The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has suspended three top presenters of Busoga One Radio in Jinja for six months over alleged hate speech and misleading broadcasts on government programs, including Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The affected presenters are Jinja City Mayor Alton Kasolo Peter Okocha, Station Manager Innocent Anyole, and Programs Director Odwori John.
The trio, who host the popular Olutindo (The Bridge) morning show, were served with suspension letters on Wednesday at the station’s premises on Radio Road in Jinja City.
According to the UCC letter, the presenters were accused of persistently broadcasting content that misled the public about government development initiatives and for allegedly attacking the person of President Yoweri Museveni during on-air discussions.
Speaking to DailyExpress, Mr. Innocent Anyole confirmed receipt of the suspension but declined to go into details, noting that the matter is “sensitive and under internal consideration.”
Sources close to the Commission revealed that the suspension follows multiple petitions, including one from Jinja Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Richard Gulume Balyaino, who in June recommended Busoga One’s closure for repeatedly breaching broadcasting standards.
Reports indicate that all three suspended presenters are aligned to the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) and have already declared intentions to contest in the 2026 general elections. Anyole is eyeing Kagoma County MP, Odwori John is targeting Kagoma North MP, while Mayor Kasolo seeks to retain his seat in Jinja City.
Busoga One Radio, partly owned by opposition politician and MP hopeful Paul Mwiru, has a history of regulatory battles. During the 2021 elections, the station was shut down by security operatives over accusations of spreading misleading election content, a matter that later spilled into court.
