Mandela National Stadium, Kampala: Uganda Cranes Head Coach Morley Byekwaso has made two changes to his starting XI that started against South Africa on Monday, as the team prepares to face reigning champions Senegal in a high-stakes CHAN 2024 quarterfinal clash at Namboole this evening.
SC Villa’s Arnold Odong comes in to partner Rogers Torach in defence, replacing for suspended Hillary Mukundane, while KCCA’s Joel Sserunjogi returns from suspension to reclaim his place in the XI, sending Patrick Kakande to the bench.
The Cranes starting lineup sees Joel Mutakubwa maintain his place in goal, shielded by a back four of Arnold Odong, Herbert Achai, Rogers Torach, and Mugweri Kizito. In midfield, Joel Sserunjogi joins Abdul Karim Watambala and Enock Ssebagala, with Reagan Mpande and Allan Okello providing creativity on the flanks to support striker Jude Ssemugabi.
Senegal, the reigning champions, line up with Marc Philips Arona Diouf in goal, supported by Seyni Mbaye Diaye, Joseph Layousse, Daouda Ba and Baye Assane (C) in defence, while Moussa Cisse, Libasse Gueye, Bonaventure Fonseca, and Pape Badji build the midfield of four as Christian Gomis, and Oumar Ba form a two-man attack for Sóuleymane Diallo’s side.
The showdown, kicking off at 5:00pm (EAT), will determine who advances to face Morocco in the semi-finals of the continental championship, with Uganda chasing a historic last-four berth at the historic Mandela National Stadium.
