Kampala, Uganda: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has emphasized health and medical emergency preparedness as thousands of delegates continue to flock Kampala for the week long activities leading to the National Delegates Conference.
Speaking to DailyExpress in an exclusive interview on Sunday, Dr. Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde, the party’s Director of Mobilization who is also the Chairperson of the Health and Safety Committee for the National Delegates Conference, said the party has put in place a comprehensive health response plan to cater for both delegates and their dependents.
“We are in charge of the health of our people, the environmental health, and also the children that delegates came with. We have had emergency cases referred to Mulago and Naguru hospitals, and quite a number of patients have been attended to here at Nakawa,” Dr. Sseninde said.
She further revealed that by day one alone as Special Interest Group (SIG) delegates flocked UICT Nakawa for their accreditation, the health team had already managed more than 500 patients, including at least 35 emergency referrals to the national hospital at Mulago.
The common cases, according to Seninde, included chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as on-site incidents such as twisted or broken legs from slips during accreditation. Others reported fever and severe illness requiring close attention.

On child care, Dr. Sseninde disclosed that the committee had initially expected about 100 children but ended up handling more than anticipated. “We requested delegates to come with only breastfeeding children, but many came with bigger children and even helpers. Still, we have supported them with essentials ranging from diapers to medical care,” she explained.
Despite the effort, Sseninde admitted the numbers had overwhelmed the team. “The consumption of drugs has surpassed what we anticipated. If the numbers remain like this, then we really need more support. But we are working with the Ministry of Health and our partners, and I believe by the end of the conference we shall manage well,” she said.
The NRM SIG elections on Monday will pave the way for the election of league structures and SIG flag bearers for the 2026 general elections. Accreditation of delegates will continue through the week, culminating in the full National Delegates Conference set for August 27–28 at Kololo Independence Grounds where CEC Members will be elected.
