Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Annet Among following her landslide victory in the race for 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Ms Among trounced former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga after securing 11,680 votes against Kadaga’s 902 out of 12,582 cast during the delegates’ lining-up elections at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday night.

In his congratulatory message posted on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Museveni praised Among for her triumph, saying it reflects the confidence that party members have in her leadership.

“I congratulate the Rt. Hon. Anita Among upon being elected the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) for the NRM,” Museveni stated.

In a separate statement on her official X handle, Speaker Among delivered an emotional acceptance speech, thanking delegates for entrusting her with the powerful CEC role that oversees women’s mobilisation at the national level.

“Dear delegates, I am truly grateful for your love and support, not just today but throughout the campaign trail. With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory,” Among said.

“I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will rely on her for advice and guidance in the days ahead.”

Ms Among further rallied members to focus on strengthening the NRM’s structures ahead of the 2026 elections.

“Let us return to work, mobilise for our Party leader and flag bearers, and ensure a resounding victory for the mighty NRM. God bless you, and God bless our great NRM,” she added.

The Speaker’s landslide victory consolidates her rising influence both in Parliament and within the ruling party’s highest decision-making organ.
