Kigali, Rwanda: Reigning Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have arrived in Kigali ahead of the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup and are set to play a pre-season friendly against Tanzania’s Azam FC at Kigali Pele Stadium.

The friendly marks the final preparation for the domestic double winners before the regional tournament, scheduled from September 2 to 15 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with all participating teams expected to arrive by August 30.

Vipers SC last featured in the Kagame Cup in 2018, exiting in the quarter-finals after a defeat to Kenya’s Gor Mahia. The club now aims to assert regional dominance, facing formidable competition including Rwandan giants APR FC, Sudanese sides Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Ahly SC Wad Madani, Ethiopian Coffee SC, and Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars FC.

The squad has undergone intense pre-season training focused on tactical drills, fitness, and team cohesion under the coaching staff. Friendly matches have been crucial in fine-tuning strategies, allowing players to test attacking and defensive setups ahead of the tournament.

Coach and technical staff remain confident the team will head to Dar es Salaam in peak form, ready to compete against some of East and Central Africa’s strongest sides.

With a blend of experienced stars and emerging talent, Vipers SC aim to improve on their previous Kagame Cup performance and target the title.

The team’s arrival in Kigali underscores their commitment to preparation, and both players and staff expressed enthusiasm about testing themselves against high-quality opposition before the official tournament begins.

Fans will be keenly watching the friendly against Azam FC to gauge team readiness and the effectiveness of pre-season tactics as Vipers SC gear up for CECAFA glory.
