Kololo, Kampala: Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Annet Among has extended an olive branch to her rival Rebecca Kadaga after defeating her in the hotly contested race for 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Rt Hon Among secured a resounding 11,680 votes against Kadaga’s 902 out of 12,582 cast in the lining-up election presided over by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday night.

In her victory speech, Among paid tribute to Kadaga, describing her as a mentor and invaluable pillar in the ruling party’s women’s mobilisation structures.

“I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will rely on her for advice and guidance in the days ahead,” Among said.

The Bukedea Woman MP and current flag bearer also thanked delegates for their overwhelming support, pledging to use her new position on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) to strengthen the NRM ahead of the 2026 elections.

“Dear delegates, I am truly grateful for your love and support, not just today but throughout the campaign trail. With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory. Let us return to work, mobilise for our Party leader and flag bearers, and ensure a resounding victory for the mighty NRM,” she declared.

In a related development, President Museveni, who witnessed the entire voting exercise under the hot sun until the late-night declaration, congratulated Among shortly after the results were announced.

“I congratulate the Rt. Hon. Anita Among upon being elected the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) for the NRM,” Museveni stated in a brief post on X, formerly Twitter.
