Mbale, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has commended Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park for spearheading Uganda’s industrialisation drive, saying the facility has already created 11,000 jobs and is transforming the local economy.
The President made the remarks on Friday as he toured the park, where he inaugurated newly established factories and laid foundation stones for others soon to commence operations.
Mr Museveni thanked Mr. Paul Zhang, the chief developer of the park, and his team for their resilience and commitment to building what he described as “a town focused on industries, not just retail.”
“I visited the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park to inaugurate the new factories and lay the foundation stone for those that are about to start. I want to thank Mr. Paul Zhang and his team for their hard work, and I assure them of my full support,” Museveni remarked.
The H.E. emphasised that the park is a practical example of the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s long-standing vision of wealth creation through four priority sectors, commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT. Of these, he highlighted industries and services as the most strategic for job creation in modern economies.
“A lack of vision is a primary cause of stagnation in countries. From the very beginning, the vision of the NRM has been clear: to create wealth through four sectors: commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT. Among these, industries and services are the sectors that generate the most jobs globally, making them vital for modernisation,” he said.
Mr Museveni noted that the Mbale Industrial Park is already producing a wide range of goods for the domestic market, reducing dependence on imports, while also positioning Uganda to become a regional hub for manufactured products.
According to the President, the park not only addresses critical goods requirements but also demonstrates the transformative role industries play in building sustainable economies.
The Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park is part of a broader government initiative to attract foreign direct investment and support value addition through special economic zones. With the creation of 11,000 jobs so far, Museveni said the project reaffirms why industrialisation remains central to Uganda’s development strategy.
