Kampala, Uganda: Former Speaker of Parliament and 1st Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has pledged to continue upholding the values and principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) despite losing the race for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) to Speaker Anita Among.
In a statement addressed to the public and party members on Friday, August 29, Kadaga expressed heartfelt gratitude to delegates who supported her during the recently concluded Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections, describing their commitment and resilience as “an inspiration.”
She also thanked party members who mobilized and displayed loyalty under challenging circumstances.
“Fellow Ugandans, brothers and sisters in the NRM fraternity, permit me to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and encouragement in the just concluded quest for the Office of the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the NRM party,” Kadaga said.
The former Speaker commended the delegates for enduring “stormy days and sleepless nights” during the elections and praised party members who helped raise her campaign profile amid numerous obstacles.
Despite the loss, Ms Kadaga reaffirmed her commitment to serving the party and the country, promising to continue championing NRM’s values and aspirations. “I re-affirm my commitment to continue striving for our values and aspirations,” she noted.
Kadaga on Thursday debunked a circulating post from an impersonation account that on Wednesday night posted that she was threatening to quit the party after the humiliating defeat to her arch rival Ms Among.
“Dear Country men and women, i have seen this message circulating. Please note that this is a fake message,” she posted on her official, verified X account (@RebeccaKadagaUG).
She also extended congratulations to all those who emerged victorious in the elections, signaling her respect for the party’s democratic process.
The 2025 CEC elections, conducted on Wednesday August 27 at Kololo, marked a significant reshuffle within the NRM party, with all new faces joining the CEC, save for National Chairperson H.E President Yoweri Museveni and 1st National Vice Chairperson, Alhajj Moses Kigongo who were both unopposed.
Key among new faces included Speaker Anita Among, Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo, David Echodu, Adrine Kobusingye, Moses Mushabe , among others, reflecting the party’s gradual generational transition.
