Police probe sexual assault, aggravated defilement of 12-year-old girl in Pallisa

Pallisa, Uganda: The territorial police in Pallisa have launched an investigation into a harrowing incident of aggravated defilement that has shaken the community of Abatat village in Kameke Sub-County.

On the night of August 28, 2025, a 12-year-old girl, Joyce, was reportedly abducted and sexually assaulted by an unknown assailant while returning home from a local party.

ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, the Bukedi North Public Relations Officer, said that a police report filed by the victim’s mother, Mong Esther, details how Joyce had attended a gathering at a neighbor’s home with her elder siblings.

After enjoying the festivities, she became separated from them while they danced. Around midnight, she decided to head home alone.

On her way, Joyce encountered a strange man who startled her by grabbing a flashlight she was carrying. The man then overpowered her, carried her into nearby bushes, and subjected her to sexual assault before fleeing the scene.

Distraught, Joyce managed to return home and recounted the traumatic experience to her mother. The following day, Mong Esther reported the incident to Kameke police post, resulting in the registration of a case (Kameke SD 07/29/08/2025; PAL CRB 383/2025).

In response, local law enforcement has acted swiftly. Investigators have documented witness statements and provided the victim with a PF 3A form for medical examination.

Preliminary findings confirmed signs of sexual abuse, including a torn hymen and fresh bruises. Evidence has also been collected, including fingernail clippings from Joyce, which may contain DNA from the assailant, as she reported scratching her attacker during the struggle. A swab from her private parts has also been taken for further analysis.

The distressing nature of this crime has sparked outrage among residents. Community leaders are calling for justice and urging anyone with information to assist law enforcement in identifying the perpetrator, who remains at large.

Pending inquiries include verifying documentation to establish Joyce’s age and conducting a thorough examination of the crime scene. Police are hopeful that the victim’s recollection of the suspect’s voice may aid in identifying him.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have promised to keep the public informed of any developments.
