Kamuli, Uganda: Kamuli district NRM cadres have assured President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of continued support for the ruling party despite the recent defeat of Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
Statehouse officials, led by Captain (Rtd) Muwanga Lutaaya, over the weekend met with the cadres at Kamuli district headquarters council hall today under the banner of “Operation Come Back Home,” aimed at restoring unity and rekindling party loyalty among disheartened supporters.
“Our mission, Operation Come Back Home, is to bring back the lost sheep so they can continue mobilising for the party. Despite challenges, we want unity, which is why we are moving to console broken-hearted members of NRM,” Lutaaya said.
He urged NRM members in Busoga not to let Kadaga’s loss to Anita Among for the 2nd female vice chairperson CEC seat divide them. “Although our daughter from Busoga (Kadaga) lost, people from Busoga should not be divided. We still need each other, and our party has to stay strong,” he added.
The meeting, attended by former ministers Isaac Isanga Musumba and Asuman Kiyingi, new and former NRM flag bearers, cultural and religious leaders, and other party stakeholders, focused on addressing regional divisions and sustaining mobilisation ahead of upcoming elections.
Mr Asuman Kiyingi, speaking on behalf of NRM cadres, acknowledged the region’s challenges but reiterated his commitment to the party. “We admit we have problems, like division among members, but we shall continue mobilising for the mighty party while requesting the president to attend to these issues,” he said.
The gathering follows Kadaga’s loss in the CEC elections held on 27 August 2027 in Kololo, which left many NRM supporters in Busoga, particularly in Kamuli, divided, and some considering opposition alternatives.
Kadaga, however, has publicly reaffirmed her loyalty to the party, pledging to continue supporting the NRM despite the setback.
