The birth of twin princes is not just a family celebration but a political statement, one that consolidates Kyabazinga Gabula IV’s legacy and situates Busoga’s royal household firmly in the modern era of hereditary symbolism.

Kamuli, Uganda: The birth of twin princes into the royal household of Busoga has stirred excitement and rekindled the weight of dynastic tradition. On August 27, 2025, His Royal Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV and Her Royal Highness Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi welcomed their twin sons, Omulangira William Ethan Nadiope and Omulangira Arnold Eli Nadiope, heirs to the storied Gabula lineage.

The announcement, delivered at Budhumbula Palace by Eng. Batumbya Patrick, chairperson of the royal wedding organizing committee, marked a moment of historical continuity for a dynasty that has long associated itself with the blessing of twin births.

“It is with profound joy and immeasurable gratitude to the Almighty that the Isebantu Kyabazinga and the Inhebantu extend the warmest greetings to the Basoga people and the world, as we announce the safe arrival of twin royal princes,” Batumbya said.

A Dynasty Rooted in Twin Heritage

DailyExpress investigations into the Gabula family tree reveal that Kyabazinga Gabula IV is himself stepping into the legacy of his forefathers. According to Owekitiibwa Woira Kitimbo Henry, the Isabalangira of Bugabula BB, the Kyabazinga is retracing the footsteps of both his father and grandfather, who also produced twins within the royal line.

This twin lineage has deepened the symbolic authority of the Gabula throne, reinforcing its spiritual legitimacy in Busoga’s cultural memory.

The newborns are great-grandsons of the late Sir William Wilberforce Nadiope III, buried at Budhumbula, and great-great-grandsons of Yosia Nadiope II. Their bloodline stretches further to Nadiope I of Naminage and to Omukama Nyamutukura, son of Mukama Wunyi of Bunyoro, revealing a dynastic bridge between Busoga and Bunyoro monarchies.

The Twin Princes and Succession Politics

The arrival of heirs naturally stirs questions about the future of succession in Busoga. While the kingdom maintains elective principles through the Lukiiko, the existence of direct royal heirs strengthens dynastic influence and adds weight to the Gabula clan’s continuity.

Analysts argue that the birth of twin princes is not just a family celebration but a political statement, one that consolidates Kyabazinga Gabula IV’s legacy and situates Busoga’s royal household firmly in the modern era of hereditary symbolism.

The royal announcement also acknowledged the Abaise Mugowa clan, particularly the family of Dhadha Stanley Bayole of Bunha in Mayuge, and the Baise Muwaya lineage, to which Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi belongs. This gesture signals the delicate balancing act of clan politics in Busoga, where royal legitimacy is reinforced through strategic alliances with powerful families.

By publicly crediting the maternal and paternal clans of the princes, the Kyabazinga ensured that their loyalty and cultural responsibility are visibly tied to the nurturing of the heirs.

Cultural Significance of Twins in Busoga

Twins hold a revered place in Busoga culture, often symbolizing abundance, continuity, and divine blessing. Among the Basoga, the birth of twins is considered a communal event that extends beyond the nuclear family, involving extended clans in rituals of thanksgiving and celebration.

That this occurrence has now touched the royal household magnifies its cultural resonance and elevates the symbolic stature of the Kyabazinga.

The Next Chapter for Busoga

The Kyabazinga, in his statement, expressed gratitude to Almighty God and the people of Busoga, both at home and in the diaspora, for their love and prayers. While the royal court has not yet disclosed when the princes will be formally introduced to the kingdom, the moment is already shaping up as one of the most anticipated cultural events in recent Busoga history.

For many Basoga, the birth of the princes is more than a personal blessing for the royal couple, it is a collective assurance that the Gabula dynasty’s legacy is alive, multiplying, and bound to influence Busoga’s destiny for generations to come.
