Kamuli, Uganda: Preparations are in high gear for the 2025 Gabula Day celebrations, with the organizing committee confirming that everything is set ahead of the annual royal commemoration on September 9 at Budhumbula Palace in Kamuli Municipality.
The day marks the election of His Highness William Wilberforce Kadumbula Nadiope Gabula IV as the Chief of Bugabula BB in 2000, a position that elevated him to the throne of Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom. This year’s edition is especially historic as the Kyabazinga celebrates 25 years as Chief of Bugabula BB.
Owekitiibwa Woira Kitimbo Henry, the Isabalangira of Bugabula BB, emphasized the uniqueness of this year’s occasion. “This year’s celebrations are going to be joyously good because Busoga Kingdom will also be welcoming and thanking God for the royal twins, Princes William Ethan Nadiope and Arnold Eli Nadiope, the sons of the Isebantu and Inebantu,” he said.
Eng. Batumbya Patrick, who also chaired the Kyabazinga’s Royal Wedding Committee, is spearheading the Gabula Day Organizing Committee. He revealed that the program will be streamlined to three core activities.
“On this day, we shall clean Kamuli Municipality with the help of schools and volunteers, plant trees from Budhumbula Palace to Kamuli Town with guidance from municipal environmental officers, and finally hold a thanksgiving service in honor of the Kyabazinga,” Batumbya said.
He added that the activities symbolize renewal, unity, and gratitude, especially as the Kyabazinga reaches the 25-year milestone.
Last year, the kingdom celebrated Gabula Day alongside the Coronation Anniversary in Bukungu Town Council, Buyende District, with the Inebantu Jovia Mutesi. This year, the celebrations return to Bugabula with the added joy of the royal twins born to the Kyabazinga and Inebantu.
Busoga Kingdom comprises eleven chiefdoms from whom the Kyabazinga is elected to reign over the kingdom. These include Bugabula (Gabula), Bugweri (The Menha), Bukholi (The Wakholi), Bukono (The Nkono), Bulamogi (The Zibondo), Bunhole (The Nanhumba), Bunya (The Luba), Busiki (The Kisiki), Butembe (The Ntembe), Kigulu (The Ngobi), and Luuka (The Tabingwa).
