Bushenyi, Uganda: Counsel Ndyakira Nicholas Muhereza, popularly known as Kinawolovu kya Ishaka and Bushenyi, has officially declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality in the 2026 general election following a disputed NRM primary outcome.

Over the weekend, Ndyakira hosted a luncheon at St. Kaggwa Gardens in Bushenyi District, where he celebrated his agents and supporters for standing firm during the primaries. The colorful event, held on Saturday, August 31, featured music, dance, and entertainment.

“I thank all my agents and supporters who stood by me despite the intimidation and massive bribery that marred the primaries. You proved that loyalty cannot be bought,” Csl Ndyakira told the gathering.

The lawyer-turned-politician used the occasion to announce his independent bid, vowing to restore Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality’s lost glory by championing anti-corruption, fighting commercialized politics, and tackling household poverty.

“Our community deserves leadership that puts people first, not business interests. We shall work together to de-commercialize politics and ensure that service delivery benefits every household,” he added.

During the same function, agents drawn from all 78 cells in the municipality reaffirmed their support behind Ndyakira, citing alleged irregularities in the primaries, particularly the lining-up voting system.

“We believe the ballot box in 2026 will deliver justice because the lining method was abused to favor certain candidates,” said one of the mobilizers.

Ndyakira also expressed mixed feelings about the NRM tribunal, appreciating President Museveni for establishing the mechanism but faulting its conduct in his petition against the Basajjabalaba family.

“The tribunal ignored overwhelming video and documentary evidence of bribery and intimidation. They simply copied and pasted their ruling without due analysis. That is why we are taking the independent path,” he remarked.
