Man lynched over suspected goat theft in Kibuku

Kibuku, Uganda: Police in Bukedi North are investigating a case of mob justice after an unidentified man suspected of stealing a goal was lynched and killed along the busy Mbale–Iganga Highway on Tuesday morning.

The incident, which occurred at around 6:00 AM, was reported at Tirinyi Police Station by Deputy Assistant Inspector of Police Jennifer Mpatogera. Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was found with a slaughtered goat believed to have been stolen, sparking mob action that ended in his death.

Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson, Wilfred Kyempasa, confirmed that detectives and the Homicide Unit were dispatched to the scene under reference number Tirinyi CRB 095/2025.

“The body was retrieved and taken to Kibuku Health Center IV for postmortem. Several exhibits were recovered, including a smartphone, blood-stained sticks, and the slaughtered goat,” Mr. Kyempasa said.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the victim and the individuals behind the mob attack. “At the moment, no arrests have been made, but we appeal to residents with any information to come forward and assist police in apprehending the suspects,” Kyempasa added.

Authorities have since cautioned the public against mob justice, warning that such acts not only undermine the rule of law but also risk punishing innocent people.
