Pallisa sets stage to host Museveni at Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day Celebrations

Pallisa leaders led by RDC Dhokusooka Magidu and area MPs meet at Kibale Town Council Boma Grounds to plan Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations.

Pallisa, Uganda: Leaders in Pallisa District have unveiled strategies to host President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and thousands of guests at the 63rd Independence Day celebrations, set to take place at Kibale Town Council Boma Grounds this October.

The event, expected to attract over 150,000 attendees, including at least 10 African heads of state, has seen the formation of organizing committees chaired by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Dhokusooka Magidu. The committees will coordinate security, welfare, protocol, entertainment, health, and mobilization ahead of the national function.

Pallisa Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Byekwaso Fred, was named Secretary General of the organizing team, while District Engineer Michael Ongwara alias “Steady Progress” will oversee the critical task of preparing and leveling the venue.

Agule County MP Hon. Ochwa David emphasized the national significance of the occasion, noting that it deserved maximum attention from all leaders. He added that Pallisa Woman MP Hon. Kevin Ojinga Kaala and other female leaders had been entrusted with chairing the welfare committee to ensure women’s full participation in the historic event.

District NRM Chairperson and Gogonyo County MP Hon. Derrick Orone, who also serves as Vice Chairperson of the organizing committee, pledged massive mobilization across Bukedi region.
“Each of the 21 sub-counties will send no less than 7,000 people. We are preparing to host over 150,000, excluding guests from other districts. This is a Bukedi event, and Pallisa is only the host,” he said.

RDC Dhokusooka stressed inclusivity in mobilization, urging MPs, district leaders, LC5 and LC3 chairpersons, as well as NRM flag bearers to play active roles. “October is just around the corner. This is a national function, and I expect positive results from everyone tasked with these assignments,” he said.

Other key appointments include Dr. Godfrey Mulekwa, District Health Officer, to lead the health and emergencies committee; DISO Afande Eldard Brian Babishanga and Hon. Oseku to handle protocol; and Mr. Dawson Wamire, District Community Development Officer, to coordinate entertainment.

Business leaders welcomed the development as a major boost for Pallisa’s economy. LC5 flag bearer Ben Okiria noted that the influx of guests would benefit hotels, farmers, and traders.
“Pallisa now has over 20 high-class hotels. Hosting such a function gives our business community a chance to sell food, accommodation, and produce to visitors,” he said.

The district leadership also resolved to compile a unified memorandum of key community concerns to present to President Museveni, with special focus on unaddressed issues from previous submissions.
