Kamuli, Uganda: Former Housing and Urban Development Minister Isaac Isanga Musumba has announced he will lead President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s campaign in Kamuli District, vowing to reclaim the ruling NRM’s dominance in the area ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking to NRM cadres and stakeholders at a meeting in Busekiti village, Southern Division, Kamuli Municipality, Musumba blamed the party’s poor performance in 2021 on internal divisions. He accused former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, who chaired Museveni’s Kamuli campaign team—of prioritizing her own votes over the President’s.
“Kamuli is for NRM, but our party chairperson and President lost here because Kadaga failed to campaign for him. This time, our mission is to deliver Museveni’s victory in Kamuli and Busoga at large,” Musumba said.
Museveni polled 44.5 percent in Kamuli during the 2021 elections, trailing Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP). Musumba said the new target is to secure at least 89 percent of the vote in 2026.
The former Buzaaya County MP, who lost in the last NRM primaries, said the party cannot afford another setback in Kamuli, a district that has historically been a stronghold but has shown growing opposition support in recent years.
“Last elections President Museveni got only 44.5 percent; this time we want to double it,” Musumba emphasized.
The meeting was attended by NRM cadres and other stakeholders from across the district, with discussions centering on mobilization, grassroots structures, and reconciliation within the party.
