Kampala, Uganda: Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Dr Alan Shonubi, Prof. Fredrick Katende, and Edwin Karugire are among 63 of Uganda’s most influential lawyers nominated for induction into the Uganda Development Champions Journal, an initiative spearheaded by Public Opinions to mark Uganda’s 63rd Independence anniversary.
The induction, set to coincide with Independence celebrations, will also see the nominees honored with the Responsible Investment Global Certification Award in recognition of their exceptional contributions to Uganda’s legal profession, national development, and the promotion of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Uganda Vision 2040, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Public Opinions, a field-based think tank championing national transformation through recognition and profiling of change-makers, has previously recognized President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a Peace and Development Champion under the same framework.
“These lawyers have gone beyond practicing law. They have become agents of sustainable peace, promoters of human rights, and defenders of justice. They inspire young Ugandans to join the legal profession,” Public Opinions noted in its nomination brief.
The Uganda Development Champions Journal will be widely distributed throughout the year to government offices, diplomatic missions, international organizations, and corporate leaders, serving both as a record of excellence and a source of inspiration for young professionals.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Many of the lawyers being inducted are credited with mentoring young Ugandans in the legal field. Public Opinions revealed that the final 63 were shortlisted through an extensive social media-based survey and consultations with stakeholders to identify the most influential and admired legal practitioners.
The honored lawyers embody qualities such as integrity, empathy, perseverance, analytical thinking, strong judgment, and exceptional communication skills—traits seen as essential for shaping the future of Uganda’s justice system and legal landscape.
