Nairobi, Kenya: Kampala Queens FC endured a tough start to their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers after falling 1-0 to Kenya Police Bullets FC at Nyayo Stadium on Thursday.
The Ugandan champions showed resilience in the opening half, weathering sustained pressure from the Kenyan hosts. Despite several close calls, goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro, making her tournament debut for Kampala Queens, stood firm to ensure the teams went into the break level.
However, just a minute into the second half, Emily Kemunto struck the decisive blow. The forward unleashed a powerful shot that beat Nakaziro, sending the home fans into jubilation and leaving Kampala Queens chasing the game.
The visitors responded by committing more bodies forward, with their forwards carving out half-chances, but their finishing lacked the precision to overturn the deficit.
The victory gives Kenya Police Bullets a strong foothold in Group B, while Kampala Queens must quickly regroup to revive their qualification hopes in their remaining fixtures.
Earlier on, Rwanda’s champions Rayon Sports WFC made a statement debut, defeating Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) 2-1. Corale Odette was the star of the show, netting a brace in the 4th and 56th minutes, before Rediet Matios scored a consolation for CBE in the 71st minute.
