Kamuli clears four for LCV chairperson race, NUP’s Ibanda left out

NRM's Dhizaala Kaloli is set to face three other contenders in the race for Kamuli District LC5 Chairperson in the upcoming elections

Kamuli, Uganda: The Kamuli District Electoral Commission has confirmed the nomination of four candidates to contest for the hotly contested Kamuli LCV chairperson seat in the upcoming elections.

Those cleared include Dhizaala Kaloli, the NRM flag bearer; Mutebe Tayoleka, the FDC candidate; Ndegwe Mubarak, an independent; and Kalulu Robert, who also broke ranks with the NRM after losing in the July primaries.

Kamuli District Returning Officer, Mr. Kayabwe Kenneth, confirmed the nominations, urging candidates to engage voters peacefully. “We have nominated four people who met all the requirements. We ask them to go and look for votes in the community and talk to the voters,” he said.

Mr. Kayabwe also revealed that NUP’s Ibanda Dasadi was disqualified for failing to meet the nomination threshold. He reportedly presented only 15 nominators per sub-county instead of the required 50 across the district’s 20 sub-counties.

Following their nomination, candidates pledged different priorities. NRM’s Dhizaala Kaloli promised improved service delivery, transparency, and job creation. “We shall make sure that we deliver to our best through good service delivery, transparency, and creating job opportunities for the people of Kamuli,” he assured.

Independent candidate Kalulu Robert said he defied the NRM primaries due to alleged violence and vote rigging. “The people of Kamuli need my leadership. I lost in the NRM primaries, but the election was marred by irregularities,” Kalulu stated.

Another independent, Ndegwe Mubarak, who is contesting for the third time, appealed for support, saying he wants to “change the leadership of Kamuli district.” FDC’s Mutebe Tayoleka also called on voters to embrace change for improved service delivery in all government sectors.

Meanwhile, former NRM contender Sarah Auma, who was the second runner-up in the primaries, together with four others, has rallied behind Kaloli to strengthen his campaign.

The Kamuli LCV race has drawn intense interest, with rival candidates promising to transform the district’s leadership landscape.
