Tooro’s Princess Ruth Komuntale is Uganda’s Tourism Ambassador to the US

UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa (3rd L) welcomes Uganda’s Tourism Ambassador to the US, Princess Ruth Komuntale (3rd R), as UTB and Tooro Kingdom leaders look on at the King’s Palace in Buziga.

Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has appointed Princess Ruth Komuntale of Tooro Kingdom as Uganda’s new Tourism Ambassador to the United States, adding to UTB’s growing pool of Destination Uganda Ambassadors promoting the Pearl of Africa abroad.

Ms Komuntale’s appointment was announced on Wednesday, September 3, at the King’s Palace in Buziga during a ceremony graced by Tooro Kingdom officials, UTB executives, and dignitaries.

The move is part of UTB’s broader strategy to leverage prominent Ugandans and cultural icons in the diaspora to promote Uganda’s tourism potential globally.

The Tooro Princess, who resides in Texas, is currently in Uganda for the 30th coronation anniversary of her brother, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa said Princess Komuntale’s international presence will be critical in marketing Destination Uganda. “Her influence and networks in the United States will help showcase Uganda’s culture, heritage, and natural attractions to a wider audience,” Kagwa said.

At the event, UTB and Tooro Kingdom leaders also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cultural tourism promotion, focusing on signature events like the Empango celebrations. Princess Komuntale welcomed her new role, noting her passion for promoting cultural tourism that highlights Uganda’s landscapes, cuisine, music, and traditions.

Tourism is one of Uganda’s leading foreign exchange earners, contributing 7.7 percent to GDP. Government projections show the sector could generate up to $50 billion by 2040 with diversification and strong private sector involvement.
