Mukono, Uganda: Senior leaders from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have called on Ugandans to strengthen grassroots support for President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling party ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The leaders, led by newly elected NRM Vice Chairperson for Central Region, Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, and Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, made the appeal on Sunday, September 07, during the Buganda Ku Museveni mobilization rally held at Kiyunga Muslims Primary School Playgrounds in Kyampisi Sub-county, Mukono District.

Hon. Kasolo, who also serves as State Minister of Microfinance, told the gathering that government programs such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and Women Empowerment initiatives are transforming lives, but require a strong partnership between citizens and NRM leaders.

“For these programs to reach every home, every village, and every parish, you must trust and vote for NRM leaders who will work hand in hand with President Museveni to deliver services,” Kasolo said.

Hon Nankabirwa, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rural electrification projects in Mukono, assuring residents that ongoing works in Nagwejje and Seeta-Mpunge would soon deliver results.

Nankabirwa, however, cautioned residents against “political opportunists” who mislead voters.

Mukono NRM District Chairperson, Hajji Haruna Ssemakula, revealed how women in Mukono alone have benefited from UGX 1.5 billion under the Uganda Women Empowerment Programme (UWEP) and UGX 22.63 billion through PDM.

He, however, appealed for urgent intervention on power shortages in Mpunge Sub-county.

The NRM District Publicity Secretary, Mr Kyeswa Hakim, who recently contested in the NRM CEC elections before stepping down to back Kasolo, faulted the opposition leadership for poor service delivery in some parts of Mukono, insisting that only NRM can fix electricity and infrastructure gaps.

“People in Mukono did not abandon President Museveni; they were only diverted by small issues. As leaders, we must fix those gaps,” Kyeswa said, rallying masses to ditch opposition leaders this time around and look up to NRM for the revival of Mukono District.

The function was attended by a strong team of NRM leaders and flag bearers, including Eng. Robert Kafeero Ssekitooleko, Hon. Margret Nakavubu, Hon. Kintu Tadeo, Hon. Ronald Kibuule, Hon. Daisy Sonko, Francis Mukoome Lukooya, Hon. Robert Migadde Ndugwa, Hon. Kirabo Agnes Nantongo, Hon. Dr. Michael Bukenya Yiga, and Hon. Enos Asiimwe, among others.
