Kamuli, Uganda: Over 20 families in Bulyampanda Zone, Naibowa Parish, Butansi Sub-county, Kamuli District have been left homeless after heavy rainfall and strong winds ravaged the area, destroying houses, crops, animals, and household property.
Local leaders confirmed that the affected residents have been forced to seek refuge in the community hall after their homes were swept away by the storm. LC1 chairperson Kyowa Isa said the disaster has left many families stranded with nothing to eat or sleep on.
“My people have lost their properties and now they are sleeping at the community hall because they don’t have where to sleep. We are asking the government to provide them with basic needs,” Kyowa told DailyExpress.
Victims Kasifa Nangobi and Mpumwiza Rehama appealed for urgent intervention, saying they have been left starving. “We have nothing left. All our animals and crops have been destroyed. We ask government and NGOs to give us food and shelter,” Nangobi said.

Butansi Sub-county LCIII NRM flag bearer, Mr. Bulo Faizo, confirmed the incident, noting that the district emergency team has been notified. “We have written to the district emergency team so that we can reach the Office of the Prime Minister for relief support,” Bulo stated.
He added that although no lives were lost, several residents sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Kamuli General Hospital and Kamuli Mission Hospital.
Mr Bulo also encouraged residents to embrace tree planting as a long-term measure to act as windbreakers against future disasters.
