Butebo, Uganda: Police in Butebo District are investigating the brutal killing of Kalikeko Ali, a 40-year-old fugitive with a history of violence, whose body was discovered on September 7, 2025, in Nasenyi village, Kabwangasi Sub-County.
Kalikeko, a resident of Nambasa zone in Mbale City’s Northern Division, allegedly murdered his wife about a year ago and fled the area. Locals suspect that relatives of his late wife may have tracked him down, resulting in his violent death.
Witnesses reported that Kalikeko’s body was found lying face-up with severe cuts to his neck and head, his hands bound behind his back, suggesting a premeditated and targeted attack.
ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, police spokesperson for Bukedi North, confirmed that detectives from the District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID) were at the scene, collecting evidence.
The body was transported to Mbale Referral Hospital for postmortem examination. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
“We strongly condemn acts of mob justice, emphasizing that they hinder investigations and do not offer solutions. We urge the public to report such cases to the relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands,” ASP Wilfred said.
The murder has polarized the community. Some sympathize with the victim’s family, while others are shocked by the violent nature of the killing and question the use of vigilante justice.
