Kampala, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Friday submitted more than two million signatures to the Electoral Commission (EC) endorsing President Yoweri Museveni’s nomination as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections.

The submission was led by the Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, alongside senior party officials, who were accompanied by a jubilant procession of leaders and supporters, to the EC headquarters in Kampala.

“We have handed in more than two million signatures, and this is confirmation of the votes President Museveni is going to have. Already, we have deposited our votes with the Electoral Commission,” Todwong said, expressing confidence in the President’s wide support across the country.

The SG added that the overwhelming turnout reflected the party’s nationwide strength and predicted that it would translate into decisive victories for both the President and other NRM candidates in 2026.

Party officials described the exercise as symbolic, saying it signified the commitment of NRM supporters to safeguard the party’s political gains and advance Uganda’s development agenda.

According to the Electoral Commission, each presidential aspirant is required to collect at least 100 signatures from two-thirds of Uganda’s 146 districts, equivalent to 98 districts.

The NRM’s delivery of over two million signatures represents an early milestone in the party’s campaign period. Presidential nominations are scheduled for September 23 and 24.
