Kampala, Uganda: NRM Youth League aspirant for National Chairperson, Kiconco Brenda, has rallied young supporters to embrace the upcoming youth elections, which have now been decentralized to the district level following a controversial decision by the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Saturday evening.

The elections, which had been suspended last month due to chaos and allegations of irregularities, are scheduled for September 18, 2025, and will see delegates across districts cast their votes to shape the new leadership of the NRM Youth League for the 2025–2030 term.

In her brief message to supporters following the CEC resolution, Kiconco urged youth to seize the opportunity to define the movement’s future by voting leaders who embody commitment and vision.

“As we approach the polls, let us remember that this is our moment to shape the future of our movement. Leadership is not about names or connections, it’s about vision, commitment, and the courage to serve,” she said.

Positioning herself as a candidate of substance over status, Ms Kiconco emphasized that the youth have the power to redefine leadership through collective resolve.

“Even without big titles behind us, we have what it takes to lead and transform. Let’s stand united, vote wisely, and keep the spirit of the revolution alive. Together, we win!” she added.

The NRM Youth League elections have drawn nationwide attention as they are expected to shape the next generation of leaders within the ruling party, but analysts say decentralizing the vote to the districts will widen participation the more and give grassroots youth a stronger say in the outcome.
