Dubai, UAE: The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged Baganda leaders in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to embrace service-oriented leadership, unity, and the preservation of cultural values as they represent the kingdom abroad.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders from Buwalabu County at Sheraton Creek Hotel in Dubai over the weekend, Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized that true authority stems from integrity, performance, and commitment to the people.
“Leadership is about service, not titles. When a leader fulfills their responsibilities with dedication, people recognize and support them. Leadership, like a song, is held together by consistent action,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.
The Kabaka’s representative in the UAE, Sheikh Abbas Nsubuga, hailed Mayiga for his visionary and inspirational leadership. He urged colleagues in the diaspora to emulate the Katikkiro, describing the visit as both motivating and a vital reminder of their responsibilities to Buganda.
Buganda’s Minister for Local Government and Foreign Affairs, Joseph Kawuki, called on leaders to remain diligent, stressing that service to the kingdom abroad is as significant as what is done at home. “What you do for your Kingdom abroad is as important as what is done at home,” Kawuki said.
The meeting, which focused on diaspora engagement, cultural promotion, and community mobilization, also attracted Buganda’s Minister for Youth, Sports, and Talent, Ssalongo Robert Sserwanga, and other kingdom officials.
Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Buganda’s presence internationally while safeguarding cultural heritage and fostering socio-economic development.
