Ssezibwa, Uganda: A total of 138 police officers under the Ssezibwa Policing Region have successfully completed a four-day intensive training program ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The training, according to a police statement on Sunday, September 14, focused on public order management, marksmanship, command and control, and adherence to human rights standards.
The Regional Police Commander, SSP Magyezi Japhezi, urged officers to apply the skills acquired during the training and assured them that regular rehearsals would continue to strengthen operational readiness.
“We expect you to apply the training in maintaining law and order while respecting the rights of citizens. More refresher sessions will be organized to make sure you are fully equipped for the tasks ahead,” SSP Magyezi said.
The Ssezibwa training is part of a nationwide Police preparedness strategy designed to ensure peaceful, secure, and credible elections. Similar programs have recently been conducted in Kampala, Gulu, and Masaka regions, focusing on crowd management, human rights, and rapid response to electoral incidents.
The Uganda Police Force says these initiatives aim to equip officers to handle any security challenges before, during, and after the 2026 polls.
Police officials emphasized that the training also prioritizes ethical conduct, stressing that officers must protect voters, candidates, and electoral materials while upholding the law.
