Businessman loses vehicle, 400kg of smoked fish in Budaka armed robbery

Budaka, Uganda: Police in Bukedi North are investigating a violent robbery in which assailants armed with a submachine gun made off with 400 kilograms of smoked fish and a vehicle belonging to a Budaka businessman.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 AM on Sunday, September 14, 2025, when 48-year-old businessman Kalimunda Ali, a resident of Lupada village, was transporting smoked fish worth about Shs8 million in his light blue Primo, registration number UAQ 430X.

According to police, Ali and his colleagues were intercepted by three armed assailants who ordered them out of the vehicle before driving away with the fish and the car, estimated at another Shs8 million in value.

Bukedi North Police PRO ASP Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed the case had been registered under reference BDK CRB 446/2025. He noted that police received the report at about 1:30 PM and immediately recorded victim statements and documented the scene.

“The complainant later informed us that the vehicle had been sighted abandoned at Tirinyi in Kibuku District, and our teams are following up on the lead,” ASP Kyempasa said.

Police said efforts are underway to track down the armed suspects and recover the stolen merchandise.
