Pallisa, Uganda: Agule Institute of Health Science and Management Tuesday swore in its 15th Guild Cabinet, with student leaders challenged to serve with integrity, fairness, and commitment to the institute’s legacy of excellence.

The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Rev. Fr. Whekona Rogers of Chelekura Parish in the Tororo Catholic Archdiocese, also welcomed the institute’s 17th and 7th intakes of new students.

Fr. Whekona, who doubles as the chaplain of the institute, urged the leaders to embrace servant leadership and uphold the values of care, problem-solving, and consultation.

“Leadership comes from God. Those entrusted with positions must show love, listen to others, and lead with integrity. You joined one of the top-performing institutions in the country, so protect its good name built over 13 years,” he said.

The priest applauded the institute’s Executive Director, Hon. Ochwa David, for establishing a project that has already passed out over 5,000 health workers and created more than 100 jobs for both skilled and unskilled people.

The Deputy Principal, Mrs. Amito Rita, commended the Institute’s Electoral Commission chaired by Makheti Saul, for conducting a credible election, adding that the transparency left even losing candidates content.

“This annual event is always special, but this year’s uniqueness was in the unity of purpose among staff and students. I urge the new Guild Cabinet, led by President Masaba Godwin and Speaker Auro Esther, to live up to their responsibility,” Amito said.

Guild Patron Mr. Johnson Osisye credited the simplification of electoral guidelines for ensuring fairness, although 80 votes were declared invalid.

Community members also testified to the institute’s contribution, with local farmers and leaders pointing to both market opportunities and students’ role in supplementing health staff in under-resourced facilities.

Hon. Ochwa, the Executive Director, told DailyExpress that the institute’s strong academic performance, affordable fees, and national exam success continue to attract students countrywide.

“Just like football fans prefer a winning club, the performance of our students in hospitals and health centres makes people admire where they trained from,” he said.
