Bushenyi, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Bushenyi District have launched investigations into a case of violent sexual assault and robbery on a Nigerian student at Kampala International University (KIU) Western Campus, who was attacked inside her hostel room by unidentified assailants.
The incident, according to police, occurred on Sunday at around 10:20am in Katungu Cell, Ishaka Division.
The victim, a second-year Law student, reported that unknown men armed with a knife broke into her room, threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm, and raped her in turns before stealing her Samsung A16 mobile phone.
Acting Greater Bushenyi Region Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed that the victim was immediately rushed for medical attention at Bushenyi Police Health Centre II. She was examined, placed on post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and issued a Police Form 3 (PF3), the official medical document used in cases of physical or sexual assault.
“A team of detectives from Bushenyi Central Police Station visited the scene to document evidence and ensure proper handling of exhibits. We are now following leads to track down the perpetrators. We also appeal to the public to share information covertly to aid investigations and ensure justice for the victim,” SP Tayebwa said.
The crime scene, Tayebwa said, was cordoned off as investigators combed the premises for possible traces of the attackers.
Police have not yet established whether the assailants were known to the victim, but they have intensified intelligence operations around Ishaka town to trace the suspects.
Authorities urged the community to remain vigilant, as this is key in helping curb the growing incidents of sexual violence and break-ins reported in the area.
