Kamuli, Uganda: The Ministry of Health has joined hands with the Aids Education Group for Youth (AEGY) and Kamuli District Local Government to mobilise stakeholders ahead of the upcoming mass yellow fever immunisation campaign scheduled for September 30 to October 6, 2025.

Speaking during a sensitisation meeting at Kamuli District Health Office, Mrs. Winifred Kakembo, a senior nursing officer at the Ministry of Health, said religious, cultural, media, and local leaders were being engaged because of their ability to spread accurate information at grassroots level.

“These categories of people are capable of giving out clear information to the local people. It is important to engage them such that the information is heard by everyone,” Kakembo stated.

She urged parents and guardians to present their families for vaccination, stressing that the exercise will be conducted freely at village level and targets individuals aged 1 to 60 years. She further reassured the public about the vaccine’s safety and significance.

“The vaccine is safe for everybody. It is also important because nowadays before travelling abroad, one is required to present a yellow fever immunisation card. I implore all people to be immunised,” Kakembo emphasised.

Representing Busoga Kingdom’s cultural leaders, Mr. Henry Woira Kitimbo, the Isabalangira of Bugabula BB, reiterated the kingdom’s commitment to health and wellness. “As Busoga Kingdom, one of our core values is to fight against diseases. We want to see a healthy community, and I appeal to everybody to go and get immunised,” Woira said.

Mr. Pius Mugweri, the Chairperson of Namwendwa Subcounty, also commended AEGY for supporting the campaign. He pledged that leaders at all levels will play their part in encouraging communities to embrace the vaccination exercise.

“It is our responsibility as leaders to inform our community about health programmes. We shall engage them to ensure they receive the vaccine,” Mugweri remarked.
