Kampala, Uganda: Samuel Begira has been declared the NRM party flag winner for the Central Youth Member of Parliament ahead of the 2026 elections after winning with a landslide in the Thursday decentralized NRM youth elections held across Uganda’s 151 districts.
Begira, who is also the Chairperson NRM Youth League in Gomba District, polled 459 votes, representing 78.6%, to emerge the clear winner among 11 contenders. His closest challenger, Kimuli Louis, managed only 68 votes (11.9%), trailing far behind in a one-sided race.
Other contenders included Kiwendo Alex (20 votes), Umutoni Sharon (12), Nankya Esther (12), Kangave Ignatius Musaazi (7), and Mweta Mitchelle Kigenda (6). The remaining candidates, Ngabo Timothy, Catherine Didas, Ssali Shafik, and Semamba Alvin, failed to register any votes.
Begira’s emphatic victory underscores his wide grassroots appeal across Central Uganda and positions him as a strong contender for the central region youth leadership role under the NRM banner.
Born and raised in Gomba, Begira has long been active in youth leadership structures, particularly in local NRM mobilization committees. His background, sources say, has kept him grounded, giving him credibility among both rural and urban youth.
“Begira has been in the trenches with young people. He understands unemployment, the need for skills, and the desire for real opportunities. That’s why his campaign struck a chord,” said one youth delegate from Mpigi.
Begira’s campaign centered on youth empowerment, employment opportunities, and harnessing government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to benefit the majority of unemployed youth. He pledged to serve as a bridge between government initiatives and the actual needs of young people on the ground.
“We must stop leaving young people behind. My role as Central Youth MP will be to ensure government programs reach every corner of our communities,” Begira told supporters after his victory declaration, urging youths to still rally behind him in the national elections.
With the NRM flag secured, Begira’s focus now shifts to consolidating support across Central Uganda ahead of the national elections. Party insiders believe his decisive win has already boosted his legitimacy, making him a key figure in the NRM’s wider strategy to rally the youth vote.
