Kampala, Uganda: The Magnificent Speke Resort Munyonyo, in partnership with the Indian Association Uganda (IAU) and the High Commission of India, is gearing up to host the Grand Diwali Food & Music Festival 2025, scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2025.
The vibrant lakeside event will spotlight Indian culture, unity, and cuisine, marking one of the biggest Diwali celebrations in Uganda.
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. This year’s edition is themed “Unity in Diversity”, with organizers urging Indian communities in Uganda to showcase their authentic food traditions while embracing cultural exchange with Ugandans.
The festival kicks off at 12:00 p.m., featuring a grand food pavilion where different groups will prepare 2–3 signature dishes ranging from curries and rice specialties to Indian sweets like jalebi and gulab jamun.
Each participating community, this website understands, will receive a tent with tables and chairs, while beverages will be centrally managed. Hygiene and safety remain a priority, with organizers enforcing strict cleanliness standards.
Beyond the food, the program includes live music, cultural performances, a children’s play zone, a fireworks display, and a cracker stall. Stalls are encouraged to incorporate traditional decorations and attire to highlight India’s cultural diversity.
Registration for participation closes on September 30, with interested groups required to submit details of their proposed dishes and contacts. Inquiries can be directed to IAU President Mr. Devanand Nainani at +256 771 1000, WhatsApp +256 703 4087, or via email at [email protected]
The Diwali festival builds on the success of previous editions, including the 2024 celebration that drew record crowds. With Uganda’s Indian diaspora estimated at more than 30,000, such events foster stronger bilateral ties and promote cultural tourism.
“Let’s make this Diwali Food & Music Festival 2025 a beautiful showcase of India in Uganda in harmony,” the organizers emphasized.
