Kampala, Uganda: First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has appealed to the people of Busoga to unite behind President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the 2026 elections, despite longstanding internal tensions within both the party and the region’s leadership.
Speaking shortly after Museveni’s nomination as the NRM presidential flag bearer, Kadaga emphasized the need for collective effort to secure victory for the party.
“Today is not just about individuals but about the party. As NRM, we walk in unity, and together we will deliver victory. I call upon the people of Busoga to rally behind the NRM in the upcoming elections,” she said.
Kadaga urged voters to set aside political divisions and back the NRM ticket, insisting that Busoga’s development progress depends on the continuity of leadership.
She pointed to ongoing infrastructure and social service projects in the region as gains that can only be consolidated under the ruling party. “Many of our projects remain unfinished. They will only be completed if the NRM is returned to power,” she noted.
Her remarks come against a backdrop of visible rifts both within the NRM and Busoga’s own political leadership. Kadaga has in the past accused some leaders from the region of undermining her influence in national politics.
Despite her decades-long service in senior government and parliamentary positions, her relationship with President Museveni has not always been smooth, with disagreements emerging over internal party elections and regional decision-making.
Kadaga’s latest appeal for unity signals a strategic attempt to reconcile these divisions ahead of the 2026 vote, prioritizing regional development and NRM victory over factional rivalries.
