Mbarara, Uganda: The National Unity Platform (NUP) on Friday unveiled its Western Uganda Headquarters in Mbarara City after secretly constructing the offices for over a year to avoid alleged government sabotage.

The headquarters, located adjacent to Independence Park Grounds, was commissioned by NUP President and 2026 presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine.

Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya revealed that the land was purchased more than a year ago, with construction quietly completed without public knowledge.

“We’re glad that information about this place was kept under wraps for over a year and so we were able to avoid the usual sabotage by the regime. Grateful to our leader Bobi Wine and the leaders with whom we work, for it takes discipline and sacrifice,” Rubongoya said.

Bobi Wine emphasized that the strategic location of the headquarters is central to strengthening NUP’s operations in Western Uganda.

“We built this headquarters without anyone knowing and opened it without anyone knowing, and that is how we shall unseat Museveni without anyone knowing. We don’t want to remove him by force because we are peaceful people,” Kyagulanyi said.

He dedicated the new regional headquarters to the late Jolly Kyomugasho Mugisha, the party’s Deputy President for Western Uganda, who passed away earlier this week at Mbarara Hospital.

Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, who also serves as the party spokesperson, said the Mbarara command center will oversee and coordinate all NUP activities in the wider Western Uganda region.

Political observers note that NUP’s decision to carry out the construction in secrecy reflects its growing caution in the face of state surveillance and alleged government attempts to disrupt its political mobilization efforts.

The unveiling comes weeks after the party launched its Eastern Uganda Headquarters in Iganga, another development that caught both its supporters and security agencies by surprise.
