Serere, Uganda: A chilling plot to eliminate Serere District Woman MP aspirant Esther Lucy Acom has been uncovered, raising fresh fears over political violence ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Intelligence sources reveal that clandestine meetings were held to orchestrate Acom’s elimination and deny her a place on the ballot. The sinister scheme allegedly involved hiring hitmen from Soroti City to execute a life-threatening mission.

The disturbing revelations emerged last week during the burial of Lt Col James Michael Ochung at Akworo village in Kyere Sub-county, where reports suggest a group of 60 notorious youths had been mobilized to disrupt the ceremony with a deadly mission.

According to accounts, the youths were recruited from Pamba, Nakatunya, Kampswahili, Moru-Apesur, and Central Ward in Soroti City. Each was promised UGX 10,000 and a heavy meal at a local eatery in Pamba before being split into groups of ten and strategically deployed under burial tents.

The operation was reportedly coordinated by a former Serere District local government official with a history of murder charges. He was allegedly aided by two associates, including an imprisoned civil servant and a community development officer (CDO) known for his Mweso gaming habits. The latter is described as light-skinned, overweight, and often seen riding a government-registered motorcycle.

The sinister mission was disrupted after military personnel intervened, halting political speeches and dispersing the groups before they could act. The timely intervention is believed to have prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.

Authorities are now under pressure to investigate the shocking findings, track down those behind the recruitment of the youths, and hold all culprits accountable to protect both the integrity of elections and the safety of candidates like Acom.
